ART - ALEXIS GINEZ “MY KEY TO SUCCESS THROUGH ART”

Alexis Ginez is a Sonoma County tattoo artist.  He owns Dedicated Arte, a tattoo shop located in the City of Sonoma, and he specializes in black and grey realism.  Born in Mexico, he has been participating in tattoo festivals and conventions across the U.S. for many years, bringing home awards from shows hosted by the artists he admires.  Alexis will discuss the evolution of his unique style and how his art reflects his own story and the history of the local Latino community.

LIFE - ISABEL LOPEZ “RESISTANCE THROUGH ART, CULTURE AND ACTIVISM”

Isabel Lopez is the Executive Director of Raizes Collective, which empowers and mobilizes artists and educators of color in Sonoma County by providing resources and assistance for them to produce art within their own communities.  Raizes gives access to venues, events and various initiatives designed to cultivate local art with potential for social and political transformation.  Isabel will discuss how she founded Raizes when she saw "the need for people who look like me" and with whom she "shares lived experiences and values" to have a common space to build and create together.

The Idea Lounge

The purpose of the Idea Lounge is to share stories and build connections that inspire and motivate, generate reflection, promote empathy, and celebrate community. One speaker is from the arts and the other is not.  They may have never met. For twenty minutes each, the speakers present an aspect of their lives which may include how they chose their professions, how people or circumstances inspired them, or decisions they made that changed the direction of their lives or careers.

The audience has equal time to uncover the commonalities between two seemingly disparate topics and career paths.   The monthly event, on the fourth Wednesday of the month, is held at the Petaluma Arts Center.  It is scheduled from 6:30-8pm with the event starting at 7pm.  Refreshments are available.
