ACT: Climate Action Now - “Climate Action Adds Up”
April 17, 3pm - 6pm & April 22, 3pm - 6pm
Petaluma Arts Center is proud to present the next chapter in our community outreach program DEEDS: Art As Action, entitled ACT: Climate Action Now. In collaboration with 350 Petaluma, and in celebration of Earth Day, April 22nd, 2021, PAC will host the multi-day program“Climate Action Adds Up.”
Please join us Saturday April 17th, 3pm - 6pm, for our outdoor community celebration including a program of events that will directly and actively engage our community in an ambitious campaign to raise awareness of how together we can mitigate climate change.
The April 17th event will include a drum circle led by Kim Atkinson, followed by a poetry slam, with prizes awarded for our 1st-3rd place poets. Throughout the afternoon participants are invited to create art for the Talking Fence, write climate pledges on seeded paper (to take home and plant!), and create playful sidewalk chalk art in celebration of Earth Day.
The “Climate Action Adds Up” celebrations will culminate on Earth Day, April 22nd, from 3pm - 6pm, with the unveiling of eight commissioned artworks exhibiting on the exterior of the Petaluma Arts Center, created by local artists addressing the climate crisis. We will then add the winning poetry from the climate poetry slam to the Talking Fence!
ACT: Climate Action Now is a multidimensional community program including the "Seeds of Change” project, which has distributed seeded paper to over 2,500 Petaluma school children, the“Talking Fence” interactive sculpture, and the “Climate Action Adds Up” community events.
