Petaluma Arts Center is proud to present the next chapter in our community outreach program, entitled ACT: Climate Action Now. The exhibition will run online and be on view from Earth Day, April 22nd, 2021, through the summer. We will be partnering with climate change organizations on a supporting program of events that will directly and actively engage the community in an ambitious campaign to raise awareness of how we can mitigate climate change together.

ACT: Climate Action Now is a multidimensional community program including the "Seeds of Change” project, which has distributed seeded paper to over 2,500 Petaluma school children, the “Talking Fence” interactive sculpture, and the “Climate Action Adds Up” community events.

“Seeds of Change”

The “Seeds of Change” program ensures that every elementary child in the Petaluma School District has the opportunity to engage in local climate awareness action. Over 2,500 Petaluma children received seeded paper and were invited to create a message or drawing on the paper before planting their new seeds.

The Talking Fence

Throughout the past year, PAC has found ways to continue to engage with our community through safe, outdoor exhibits. The Talking Fence has served as a space to engage and reflect with ACT: Climate Action Now. Inspired by the concept, “Think globally and act locally,” we invite participants to add their voice to the collective call on this outdoor social message-board focused on raising awareness and inspiring our community to address the issue of climate change.

“Climate Action Adds Up”

In collaboration with 350 Petaluma, and in celebration of Earth Day, April 22nd, 2021, PAC hosted the multi-day program “Climate Action Adds Up.” The April 17th event included a community drum circle, youth led poetry slam, and artistic creations by our community celebrating climate activism. Our April 22nd culminating event unveiled eight commissioned art pieces created by local artists addressing the climate crisis, and the addition of our winning slam poetry to The Talking Fence!
