Join us the evening of Wednesday, October 16th, for an Idea Lounge conversation with Amy Critchett, Petaluma artist, designer and self-described maximalist, and Maureen Highland, Executive Director of the Petaluma Educational Foundation. Come for drinks and mingling at 6:30pm, and enjoy the program from 7:00-8:00pm.
ART - Amy Critchett “The Election Collection: Create, Conjure, Cast”
Amy Critchett is a Petaluma artist, designer and self-described maximalist. Her talk will focus on infusing her own magic into an art experience intended to impact the outcome of the upcoming election. Amy is a master of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary; she uses decorative art to layer color onto collage and repeat patterning to express her aspirational art and activism. Currently, she is creating wearable art and objects in designs that have election motifs. Amy is on a mission to transform the world - one campaign - one project - one conversation and one artwork at a time.
LIFE - Maureen Highland “How My Professional Path Has Led Me to Positively Impact My Community”
Maureen Highland is the Executive Director of the Petaluma Educational Foundation (PEF), a privately funded non-profit that works closely with the 35 public, private and charter schools in our community. PEF's goal is to fund impact grants and award scholarships that consider each school's and student's unique needs. Working with community groups on event planning and programs led Maureen to discover a passion for non-profit work. She'll discuss her career path and PEF's impact in Petaluma.
The Idea Lounge
The purpose of the Idea Lounge is to share stories and build connections that inspire and motivate, generate reflection, promote empathy, and celebrate community. One speaker is from the arts and the other is not. They may have never met. For twenty minutes each, the speakers present an aspect of their lives which may include how they chose their professions, how people or circumstances inspired them, or decisions they made that changed the direction of their lives or careers.
The audience has equal time to uncover the commonalities between two seemingly disparate topics and career paths. The monthly event, on the fourth Wednesday of the month, is held at the Petaluma Arts Center. It is scheduled from 6:30-8pm with the event starting at 7pm. Refreshments are available.
