Idea Lounge

Join us the evening of Wednesday, February 28th, for an Idea Lounge conversation with Kathryn St. Clair, Artist, and Diana Spaulding, Branch Manager, Petaluma Regional Library. Come for drinks and mingling at 6:30pm, and enjoy the program from 7:00-8:00pm.

ART - Kathryn St. Clair - "Choosing a Perspective -  My Journey to Painting Imagined Landscapes"

Kathryn St. Clair moved to Petaluma in 2008 and found great inspiration from the unique qualities of the wetlands in Shollenberger Park. She finds tremendous freedom in painting "imagined places" that reflect the connections among the elemental forces of water, nature, atmosphere, light and land. Kathryn received her BFA in Studio Art with honors from the University of Texas, Austin and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Masschusetts College of Art in Boston. In 2020 and 2021, Kathryn was commisioned to create public art campaigns for voter participation and water conservation.

LIFE - Diana Spaulding - “The Public Library in Imagination and Practice”

Diana Spaulding is the manager of the Petaluma Regional Library where she has worked for most of the past ten years, after a long and varied career as a librarian in public and private spaces. After growing up in Oakland and attending public schools, she graduated from Wellesley College and earned her Master’s in Library and Information Studies at UC Berkeley.  Diana moved to Petaluma in 1999 with her family and appreciates the city's natural and architectural beauty and its strong sense of community. Her talk will explore the idealized public library and how principles of modern public librarianship manifest in the particular environment of your local libraries.

The Idea Lounge

The purpose of the Idea Lounge is to share stories and build connections that inspire and motivate, generate reflection, promote empathy, and celebrate community.

The Idea Lounge pairs two speakers who may have never met.  One speaker is from the arts and the other is not.

For twenty minutes each, the speakers present an aspect of their lives which may include how they chose their professions, how people or circumstances inspired them, or decisions they made that changed the direction of their lives or careers.

The audience has equal time to uncover the commonalities between two seemingly disparate topicsand career paths.   Idea Lounge lasts one hour.

The monthly event, on the fourth Wednesday of the month, is held at the Petaluma Arts Center.  It is scheduled from 6:30-8pm with the event starting at 7pm.  Refreshments are available.

PAC members $12 | Non-members $15
