Portraits of Petaluma Pioneers: Personal Images & Public Stories of a California Rivertown  at Petaluma Historical Museum & Library  June 10 – September 25, 2017

The Face of Petaluma: Portraits of Our Town is a photographic portrayal of people who live in this historic town. Five photographers – Paige Green, Michael Woolsey, Jude Mooney, Michael Garlington and Ramin Rahimian – have been making portraits and collecting stories from an array of local personalities, from all walks of life, some of whom are hidden within our unique community, and whose diverse and relevant stories need to be shared in these transitional times. The exhibition is co-curated by Stefan Kirkeby, owner of the San Anselmo-based gallery, Smith Andersen North and partner in the Casemore Kirkeby gallery in San Francisco.  CLICK HERE to read more about this exhibit.

Tidal Response: Coastal Marine Environments from Above and Below
Curator: Carin Jacobs
Exhibition Dates:  August 22 – October 21
Opening Reception:  August 19, 5pm

Tidal Response explores the intersection of art and science through a series of responses to coastal environments, with particular emphasis on Sonoma County. Some of these marine impressions are more literal– in Peter Connors’ case, displaying formerly living sea creatures as a medium in his delicate algae pressings; in Chris Dewees’ case, using sea inhabitants as part of his actual process of Gyotaku printing. Other works are more conceptual, as Richard and Judith Selby Lang repurpose objects found at the water’s edge to express both environmental philosophy and sense of place.

Collectively, these seven artists- some trained in fine arts, some in biology– enter into a dialogue with nature, and with each other, breaking down disciplinary silos and allowing for a more holistic and perhaps richer exploration of a complex ecosystem.
