Safety Protocols
  • Enrollment is limited to 12 students per camp. All camps will meet at the Petaluma Arts Center classroom and instruction will be divided between time spent indoors and outdoors.
  • The same group of students will participate in each camp. No drop-ins are allowed
  • All staff and students must follow comprehensive daily health and safety protocols created in partnership with county healthcare professionals.

Hygiene Measures

  • Hand-washing stations and disinfectant will be available in the classroom. Dis-infections of “touch points” in the classrooms will occur daily at the start and end of each camp.
  • Teachers will handle student art materials only when absolutely necessary (and then only with gloves).
  • No more than one student can visit the restroom at a time.

  • All students will need to complete a daily health questionnaire.

  • Physical distancing will be necessary at all times.
  • Food sharing will not be allowed.
  • If students participate in morning and afternoon camps, lunch will occur outside at a designated space.

  • All staff and students are advised to wear masks when they are in common spaces and classrooms, whether physical-distancing or not. While it is anticipated this will be difficult to enforce with the younger children, it will be expected and required of older students.

*All campers must bring completed PAC Emergency Form and Photography Consent form. Please bring these forms to the first day of camp. Forms must be filled out by a parent or adult guardian.

During these 4 days, we will make the Ideal City out of re-purposed materials such as cardboard and discarded objects. We start by creating the idea for our city and doing some drawing with crayola and washable markers.  In the next two days we build our sculptures using the idea from the day before. We will include building such as food source outlets, gardens and fountains, markets, houses, movie theaters and much more. On our last day we will finish our creations and organize the City. We'll appoint a mayor and other positions to run the city and do a ribbon cutting ceremony. Ms. Maslon will video tape the ceremony and sent you a copy. After we breakdown the City, children are free to take home their creations.

About the Instructor:
Hilary Maslon received an MFA from Queens College NY. She is a visual artist with years of experience backdrop production for theater, film television and industry. She has worked in the field of art education since 1990.
