Idea Lounge at Della Fattoria: Cinda Gilliland and Lynn Stauffer

The Idea Lounge is an exciting series of talks with a twist! Two speakers: one from the arts, one not. The audience uncovers what they have in common, revealing the connections between art and life. The Idea Lounge is part of PAC Out of the Box, featuring collaborative activities that take place literally and figuratively outside the walls of the Arts Center and outside the typical art exhibition.

Representing art is Cinda Gilliland, whose topic is "Landscape Architecture: Protecting Aesthetics"

After growing up in San Rafael and earning a BA in Studio Art, Cinda Gilliland moved to NYC, drawn to the         particular intensity of the Manhattan version of urbanity and its promise of a creative culture of diversity.  The next decade brought the birth of a child, a growing interest in design, and a need for a profession (see birth of child) which led her to pursue a degree in Landscape Architecture at UVA, after which she accepted a job at a landscape architecture firm in Sausalito, working in the United States, China, and India designing academic and corporate campuses, community parks and plazas, and community master plans.  Last year she and her husband, Lawrence Reed, formed Reed Gilliland with the hope of reinvigorating a more personal, and adaptive approach to design opportunities. Cinda believes in the infectious energy of human creativity’s ability to catalyze social change and build community cohesiveness.

Representing life is Dr. Lynn Stauffer, whose topic is "A Bit of the Nitty Gritty for Women in STEM: Science Across Gender Lines"

Serving as a champion for the sciences and a role model for women in STEM, Dr. Lynn Stauffer became the first female faculty member in the Computer Science Department at Sonoma State University in 1994. Currently Dean of the School of Science and Technology, she leads efforts to inspire young people of all backgrounds to pursue STEM fields. She sees the potential for STEM skills to be the great equalizer of this next generation of workers.  She was recently recognized as an Inspiring Leaders in STEM award recipient from the national Insight Into Diversity Magazine and as a Women Business Leader by the North Bay Business Journal. She and her husband Jim have lived in Petaluma since 1994 and raised their three children - now all STEM professionals – in the area.

The Idea Lounge takes place at Della Lounge every third Thursday. Join us at 6:30 for socializing, then grab a seat at 7:00pm for an hour of unpredictable fun.

The Della Lounge is located at 143 Petaluma Blvd North Petaluma, CA 94952.
