Idea Lounge at Lagunitas: Matt Devine and Susan Larson

The Idea Lounge is an exciting series of talks with a twist! Two speakers: one from the arts, one not. The audience uncovers what they have in common, revealing the connections between art and life. The Idea Lounge is part of PAC Out of the Box, featuring collaborative activities that take place literally and figuratively outside the walls of the Arts Center and outside the typical art exhibition.

Representing art is Matt Devine, whose topic is "Metalwork."

Representing life is Susan Larson, whose topic is "The Business of Building a Corporate Art Collection."

The Idea Lounge takes place in the Lounge at Lagunitas every third Thursday, March through August. Join us at 6:30 for socializing, then grab a seat at 7:00pm for an hour of unpredictable fun.

The Lounge at Lagunitas is located at 1280 N McDowell Blvd, Petaluma CA 94952.

About the Speakers

Matt Devine is a self-taught sculptor working with steel, aluminum and bronze. Born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1975 and raised in New England, Devine moved to San Diego, California in 1995 where he learned how to weld and fabricate metal with his father while working at the La Jolla Playhouse. He moved on to work at various fabrication studios often working with designers and architects, eventually creating his own designs. Functional pieces gave way to non-representational sculptures, which he showed at galleries in San Diego with increasing frequency and success. In 2004 he was able to transition to full time artist. Devine’s sculpture is currently on display at highly-regarded fine art galleries across the country. His sculptures can be found in private collections throughout North America and international collections on five continents. Devine has expanded his scope to include design and fabrication of large-scale public works on display in prominent urban settings. Devine currently resides with his wife and daughter in Petaluma, California.
Susan Larson came on the art scene at the dawn of corporate art collecting in the 80’s. As an art consultant in Chicago, she quickly gained prominence with her creative approach to developing corporate collections. Understanding the need to reflect the culture of the corporation and be sympathetic to the architecture of the space, she searched for and selected site specific artwork that created an aesthetically complimentary corporate environment.
Using her distinctive artistic sensibilities, the timeless collections Larson curated include works of various mediums: canvases, works on paper, sculpture, multi- media and photography, created by national and international artists. Her client list includes banks, law firms, and Fortune 500 companies such as Sara Lee Corporation, Nuveen & Company, General Motors and Chase Bank.  Susan Larson is a consummate professional with over thirty years of experience, who has creatively orchestrated small and large-scope projects for non-profit and corporate clients, using highly honed skills in management, marketing, development, production, media, and the arts. She has also been involved with the Petaluma Arts Center in the last year, as both a juror and a member of our exhibitions committee.
