Class 1:Introduction, discussion of course contents, student objectives and interests. Cover history and
basic elements of design. Assignment:on paper or board describe depth with line, basic color
wheel concepts and understanding blending pigment from one complementary color to another.
Class 2: Discuss assignment from previous class. Begin exploration of the elements of design including
color and using them in your compositions.
Class 3: Using collage, cut paper to compose considering various elements of design.
Class 4: Looking at art history and relating elements of design and principles of color previously discussed.
Materials attendees will bring: Acrylic, tempera, gouache, or water colors, (water based paint) white, black, red, yellow, blue),
a variety of brushes, unbreakable water container, rag, scissors, ruler, 11: x 14" pad heavy white paper.
Papers in primary colors, from Michael's "Recollections Primary Cardstock Paper or similar.
Each artist can choose their own materials as long as they are relevant to class topics.
Ages 14 and up. Whether you are an artist or just interested in the subject matter, this is a class for you.
The Instructor, Gary McKinnon spent 30 years designing and directing advertising and broadcast graphics. He has done work for all of the major media networks and many international broadcasters. From a bckground in traditional animation he rode the wave into the digital future of 3D.
