New Board Member: Irma Vega Bijou

Join us in welcoming our newest board member!

Irma is a Californian, born in San Diego, and has lived both in Mexico and the United States.  This heritage goes back to the late 19th century with family roots in both countries, owning ranches in Sonora Mexico and citrus ranches in Orange County.

When she was 18, Irma travelled to Mexico City to attend the National University UNAM  and followed studies in Sociology, rural development and Education. She stayed for a decade in the city, where she worked in socio-economic outreach, combining her professional activities with a passion for modern dance.

Arts and Crafts were part of her upbringing, and she has focused her own work in ceramics, sculpture, painting, textiles and  mixed media. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, including Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Italy and The Netherlands.

Irma has implemented custom designed art programs for the Richmond Art Center, Santa Barbara City College, Westmont College and the  School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as many libraries and community centers. She believes art has a profound impact on people, allowing us to create and give voice, to learn and to share, interacting in deeper and better ways.
