Idea Lounge

Join us the evening of Wednesday, March 27th, for an Idea Lounge conversation with Ian Nelson, Cinematographer, and Erik Schlagenhauf, Vice President, North American Operations, SEAPA. Come for drinks and mingling at 6:30pm, and enjoy the program from 7:00-8:00pm.

ART - Ian Nelson - "Advocating for Environmental Conservation Through Film"

Growing up in Sonoma County, California, Ian’s passion for filmmaking led to his studies at Academy of Art University, School of Motion Pictures & Television, with an emphasis in cinematography. After earning a BFA in 2012, Ian followed his passion for the outdoors, creating documentaries that focus on the importance of biodiversity, wildlife conservation and land stewardship.  His recent film, Pepperwood: Rising From the Ashes, tells a story of nature's resilience after experiencing back-to-back wildfires in 2017 and 2019.

LIFE - Erik Schlagenhauf - “Consider the Oyster Farmer”

Erik’s path to oysters first started when he lived in Puget Sound enjoying oysters with his parents during happy hour at Seattle oyster bars. His exploration of the ocean and its bounty continued while working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska. In the early 2000s, Erik began working with Hog Island Oyster Company as a farm manager in Tomales Bay and he remained there for 14 years becoming their Director of Farm Operations.  Erik will discuss oysters, their biology and  sustainability as a food source, how they are grown and his journey to beautiful places in the world meeting and working with fellow oyster farmers.

The Idea Lounge

The purpose of the Idea Lounge is to share stories and build connections that inspire and motivate, generate reflection, promote empathy, and celebrate community. One speaker is from the arts and the other is not.  They may have never met. For twenty minutes each, the speakers present an aspect of their lives which may include how they chose their professions, how people or circumstances inspired them, or decisions they made that changed the direction of their lives or careers.

The audience has equal time to uncover the commonalities between two seemingly disparate topics and career paths.   The monthly event, on the fourth Wednesday of the month, is held at the Petaluma Arts Center.  It is scheduled from 6:30-8pm with the event starting at 7pm.  Refreshments are available.

PAC members $12 | Non-members $15
