Art Exchange - Understanding the Intricacies of Framing Your Artwork

  • Petaluma Arts Center 230 Lakeville Street Petaluma, CA, 94952 United States (map)

Understanding the Intricacies of Framing Your Artwork

Note: Because there is not a current exhibition at PAC, the presentation will start at 5:30pm or soon thereafter.

With Hamish Hafter of The Edge Gallery

This presentation will include numerous decisions to consider for high-quality framing that complements rather than competes with your artwork.  The conservation needs of particular artworks like photographs, drawings, and watercolors, for example, may require an additional step in the framing process.  Discussion will include the different choices of mat board, glass, and backing. The presentation will also discuss some artwork storage and transport solutions using the ArtPak.  The ArtPak is useful in reducing damage to frames and canvases; a system that the presenter himself has developed.

Hamish Hafter has been a professional framer for 20 years.  He operates The Edge Gallery in Petaluma and provides framing services to many artists as well as retail clients. His philosophy is to choose framing solutions that are best for the artworks themselves.  Simplicity is often the key to a successful framing project.
